1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Motion Group LLC ("Motion," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use Motion: Social Events. That includes our mobile app, our website at motioneventco.com, and any related services (together, the "Service").
Motion helps people find, host, and attend local events. Because the Service is built around meeting up in person, some of your information is visible to other users. This policy explains what is shared and how you can control it.
This policy does not cover information you share directly with other users, event hosts, or businesses outside the Service. Those parties handle that information under their own practices. By using the Service, you agree to this policy and our Terms of Service.
2. Information We Collect
Information you give us
- Account information: your name, email address, phone number, password, and date of birth (to confirm you are 18 or older).
- Profile information: your profile photo, bio, interests, and anything else you choose to add to your profile.
- Connections: connection requests you send, accept, or decline, and the list of people you are connected with.
- Event information: events you create, including the title, description, photos, date, time, and location, plus events you RSVP to, save, or attend.
- Content you post: comments, photos, and anything else you post through the Service.
- Support and feedback: information you share when you contact us, report a problem, or answer a survey.
Information we collect automatically
- Location information: your precise location if you allow it, or your approximate location based on your IP address. See Section 5.
- Device information: device type, operating system, app version, unique device identifiers, IP address, and language and time zone settings.
- Usage information: the screens you view, the events you browse or tap on, searches, features you use, and when and how often you use the Service.
- Crash and performance data: error logs and diagnostic data that help us fix bugs.
- Cookies and similar technologies: on our website, we use cookies and similar tools to keep you signed in, remember your settings, and understand how the site is used.
Information from other sources
- Sign-in services: if you sign up with a service like Apple or Google, we receive basic information from that account, such as your name and email address.
- Other users: other users may share information about you, for example by inviting you to an event or reporting your account.
- Business partners: partner venues may tell us when a Motion deal or offer is redeemed.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Run the Service: create and manage your account, let you host and RSVP to events, show events on the map, and enable other features.
- Personalize your experience: recommend events on your For You page based on your interests, location, and activity.
- Show deals and offers: display promotions from partner bars, restaurants, clubs, and other businesses near you.
- Communicate with you: send event reminders, updates about events you joined, account and security notices, and responses to your questions.
- Keep the community safe: verify that users are 18 or older, review reports, enforce our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines, and detect fraud, spam, and abuse.
- Improve the Service: understand how people use Motion, fix bugs, and build new features.
- Follow the law: meet legal obligations and protect our rights and the rights of others.
We do not sell your personal information.
4. How Your Information Is Shared
- With other users: your profile name, photo, bio, and interests are visible to other users. Events you host, including their location, are visible to people who can view the event. Depending on your settings, other users may see which events you RSVP to or attend.
- With your connections: when you and another user accept each other's connection request, each of you can see the other's phone number in the app. We do not show your phone number to users you are not connected with. Removing a connection stops us from showing your number to that person, but we cannot undo a number they have already seen or saved.
- With event hosts: when you RSVP to an event, the host can see your profile and RSVP status so they can manage their event.
- With partner businesses: when you redeem a deal, we may share limited information with that business, such as confirmation that a Motion user redeemed the offer. We share only aggregated or de-identified information beyond that unless you agree otherwise.
- With service providers: we use companies that help us run the Service, such as hosting, data storage, maps, analytics, email, and push notifications. They may use your information only to provide services to us. For example, we use Apple MapKit to display the event map and event locations. When you use the map, Apple may process information such as your device's location and map requests under Apple's own privacy policy. We also use providers for hosting, data storage, email, and analytics.
- For legal reasons: we may share information if required by law, or if we believe it is needed to respond to legal process, protect someone's safety, investigate fraud, or enforce our terms.
- In a business transfer: if Motion is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that deal.
- With your consent: we may share information in other ways if you ask us to or agree to it.
We may also share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you, such as how many people attended events in a city.
5. Location Information
Motion uses your location to show events and deals near you on the map and your For You page. We ask for permission before collecting your precise location, and you can turn it off at any time in your device settings.
If you turn off precise location, we may still estimate your general area from your IP address. Some features, like the nearby events map, may not work as well.
We do not show your real-time location to other users. The locations shown on the map are the event locations that hosts choose to share. If you host an event at a private address, consider how much detail to share and with whom.
6. Your Choices and Rights
Your choices
- Profile and visibility: you can edit your profile and adjust what others see in your account settings.
- Location: you can turn location access on or off in your device settings.
- Notifications: you can turn off push notifications at any time in your device or app settings. We may still send account and safety messages by email.
- Connections: you decide who to connect with. You can decline a request, remove a connection, or block a user at any time.
- Blocking and reporting: you can block or report users and events that make you uncomfortable.
- Deleting your account: you can delete your account in the app's account settings or by emailing us at team@motioneventco.com. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile and associated data.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Know what personal information we have about you and get a copy of it
- Correct inaccurate information
- Delete your personal information
- Opt out of targeted advertising or the sale of your personal information (we do not sell it)
- Appeal if we deny your request
Residents of Utah, California, and certain other states have these rights under state privacy laws. To make a request, email us at team@motioneventco.com. We may need to verify your identity first. We will not treat you differently for using your privacy rights.
7. How Long We Keep Your Information
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. After you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within 30 days. We may keep some information longer when we need it to follow the law, resolve disputes, prevent fraud or abuse, or enforce our terms. Backups may take up to 90 days to clear.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, such as encryption in transit and limited access to personal data. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee that your information will never be accessed without permission. Use a strong password and do not share your login with anyone. If we learn of a breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by law.
9. Age Requirement
Motion is only for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that someone under 18 has created an account, we will delete the account and its information. If you believe a minor is using Motion, contact us at team@motioneventco.com.
10. Third-Party Links and Services
The Service may link to or work with websites and services we do not control, such as partner business websites, ticketing sites, maps, or social media. When you use them, their own privacy policies apply. We are not responsible for how they handle your information.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top. If the changes are significant, we will let you know through the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use Motion after an update means you accept the new policy.
